It is certainly true that as the internet has grown, so have the ideas about how to best utilize its potential. People think of new ways to get the most out of worldwide instant communications every day. Are we getting the most out of our web presence even today?
No.
But we're working on it!
Think of this: What if anyone in the world could listen to our worship services, watch our worship services anytime from wherever they are?
What if we could serve the underserved parts of our congregation better?
What if we could provide a small group for every niche?
What if those small groups could include people from anywhere?
What if our ministries could touch anyone with internet access? And what if those people could be motivated to support our ministries? To volunteer? To spread God's word?
What if we could talk about God with each other when the ideas strike?
What if we could have interaction with our Pastors whenever we need it? If we could get to know each other better, not just on Sunday mornings, but when it suits our own schedules?
What if the world were our parish?
All of these things can be true right now, today. The technology for live streaming and podcasting of worship exists today. You've hopefully listened to a sermon or two that we have recorded digitally already. But there is much further that we could go.
We could have Discussion Forums on any topic.
We could have Chat Rooms for any age.
We could have virtual prayer groups which meet on a set schedule or pray when they can.
We could make digital visits to shut-ins and the sick.
All it takes to have all of these things is time and desire.
We can move our church through the 21st Century with pride, knowing that our ministry can and does reach anyone who finds us, not just in Burbank, not just in the US, but anyone, anywhere. Isn't that exciting? Don't you wish we could do it all today? I do!
